“Snævringen” in the northern part of the Little Belt has one of the world’s densest populations of whales – the porpoise, which thrives in the riveting waters.
The organised hunt for porpoises happened in Gamborg Fjord south of Middelfart from 1593 to 1880. The porpoise hunters in Middelfart had a life-long royal privilege for hunting porpoises. The boats of the porpoise hunters can be seen at Middelfart Museum and a copy on the water next to the Little Belt Shipyard in Middelfart Gl. Havn (Old Harbour).
